Coronavirus| UEFA postpones Euro 2020 by a year.
European
football’s governing body UEFA informed on Tuesday that the European
Championship has been postponed until 2021 due to the increasing effect of the
coronavirus. The new proposed dates for the championship tournament are June 11
to July 11, 2021.
All the UEFA
championship, Europa League and competitions are postponed in Italy, France and
Spain for the next year. More than 2,100people died in Italy, which was to host
the opening game of the 2020 championships in Rome.
European
leaders are also planning to ban all the non-essential travels due to
coronavirus and France also joined Italy on Tuesday for allowing all the strict
measures. Europe and Italy have many cases of coronavirus.
UEFA isplanning
to come up with a new Calendar of league and clubs for the season to be
completed this year. Twenty out of 24Nations qualified in Euro, matches for the
final 4 participants due this month, have been postponed. South America’s
equivalent of the Euro Copa America also postponed itsscheduled eventfor June and July 2021.
The English
FA’s CEO Mark Bullinghamsaid,“People’s health and well-being has to be our top
priority. So, we fully support the decision of UEFA to postpone EURO 2020.”
French Football Federation (FFF) President Noel Le Great also supported the
decision of postponement of EURO 2020.
There will be no change in the format, and the number of venues for the
knock-on-effects EURO 2020 was due to be held in 12 countries. The Women’s
European Championship is also scheduled to run from “July 7 to August 1” next
year in England.
