State-level SC, ST Committees did not hold any meeting in 3years
As per the information provided by the Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry, the SC and ST committees of 25 States and Union Territories had not met even once in the three years- 2017, 2018 and 2019.The State-level committees are responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989, is an act for safeguarding the interests of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes people and also to protect these communities against any atrocity. This Act is also known as ST/SC Act . This Act defines the objective of the government to deliver justice to these communities by providing them a good standard of living and enable them to live in a society with dignity and self-esteem.
